Cable & Wireless (C&W) is to sell its US retail voice customer base to a subsidiary of Primus Telecommunications Group in Virginia, USA, for $32m (£21m) in cash.

The deal, which is part of the London company's restructuring of its US operations, is subject to approval by US regulatory authorities, C&W said in a statement. The company is focusing on providing IP (Internet Protocol) data and hosting services to corporate customers.

C&W said it would update investors on the progress of the restructuring of its US operations when it publishes its interim results in November.

Currently, C&W offers IP-based services in 33 countries around the world.
