DaimlerChrysler signs global deal with SAP

SAP has won a global contract to deliver its mySAP.com e-business software to car maker DaimlerChrysler, the software company said at its Sapphire customer conference and trade show in Lisbon, Portugal.

DaimlerChrysler, which is one of SAP's largest customers, uses several SAP software products including a financial-management system based on SAP R/3, the company's core enterprise resource planning product.. In Germany, the car company is using a travel booking system based on mySAP.com, with plans to extend this service to some 60,000 employees around the world, according to SAP.

"In Germany, we have been able to reduce the number of travel offices from 70 to just one travel center, reducing our travel expenses by 75%," said Sue Unger, DaimlerChrysler's senior vice-president and chief information officer.

Another part of the strategic partnership between DaimlerChrysler and SAP involves a new vehicle management system, a tracking-and-tracing application of a mySAP-based template that the car marker is using in its wholesale operations in the Asia Pacific region. "This template helps us better meet the needs of our local partners, as well as streamline our business processes," Unger said.
