Devpartner helps coders speed up .net development

Compuware has introduced Devpartner Studio 7.0 Professional Edition to accelerate development of Microsoft .net applications in Microsoft Visual Studio .net and Visual Studio 6, writes Eric Doyle.

Apart from offering help to developers learning how to code in Microsoft's languages, the package features code review, automatic error detection, and analysis capabilities for performance, distributed applications and code coverage.

The system can find bottlenecks in code but goes beyond discovery to offer an explanation of the problem and point the developer to resources on the Web where further help is available.

Kathleen Quirk, senior analyst at the Hurwitz Group, said, "Developers are going to face the challenge of learning the .net platform as they integrate new .net applications with existing Windows components that incorporate proven business logic. Compuware Devpartner Studio lets developers learn and employ best development practices across the entire application, including both managed and unmanaged code."

In distributed applications, such as Web services, Devpartner can detect and analyse errors and performance issues. Because these applications execute across a range of platforms, it is sometimes difficult to find where the problem lies. Compuware's development environment can collect and correlate information from all of the components into a single view to make it easier to analyse overall performance.
