TechXNY: Xerox pitches 500 series at mid-market

Xerox has rolled out a new Document Centre 500 printer designed to provide small and medium-sized businesses with combined print/scan/send functions.

The 500 series allows users to not only copy black-and-white documents at speeds of 35, 45, and 55 pages per minute, but to also fax documents via the Internet.

Wireless 802.11b networking is also available with the Xerox 500 series printers, freeing users to move through an office environment and send print jobs to the printer via a wireless computer connection.

For security, the 500 series offers an "image overwrite" security option that deletes all records of documents that are printed or scanned on the system, according to Xerox.

The new Document Centre 500 printers are part of a recent wave of multifunction printers from a variety of vendors including Lexmark, Hewlett-Packard and Canon.

Available from 30 July, series 500 printers running at 35 pages per minute start at $8,555 (£5,615) while systems running at 55 pages per minute start at $20,455 (£13,425).
