Startup sharpens system management

After spending six months in stealth mode, Vieo has shed light on its Adaptive Application Infrastructure Management (AAIM) product designed to help companies get a better hold on system management within distributed computing environments.

Vieo's unique approach to the problem of distributed system management is to exploit InfiniBand technology - a multichannel, switched fabric I/O technology that has only recently begun to arrive as an option in servers and storage devices - as the connection point between compute nodes within the network.

AAIM uses one of the InfiniBand management channels to add system management technology at the application level to give network administrators better control of resources in a distributed environment.

"We are providing the necessary transport that allows applications and databases to run on top of InfiniBand fabric without a single change, and get huge performance and reliability gains," said Bob Fabbio, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Vieo.

Vieo's two-fisted tactic of delivering system management tools with an InfiniBand backbone will not only assist administrators with distributed system management tasks, but also help foster the growth of InfiniBand technology in networks.

Vieo AAIM is expected to be released by the end of this year, according to Fabbio.
