Software is spot-on for duty free

World Duty Free, the UK's largest airport retailer, is implementing a warehouse management system to help it comply with the duty implication law which requires the company to maintain 100% inventory accuracy.

The PkMS system, from supplier Manhattan Associates, will support World Duty Free's unique retailing environment, said Adrian Frymann, project director at the company.

"We trade 365 days of the year, from first flight to last flight and, therefore, must always be well stocked," he said. "PkMS will enable us to increase product availability and meet the growing demands of our customer base, while also meeting our stringent inventory accuracy demands."

Duty-free retailers are required by law to maintain 100% inventory accuracy and end-to-end goods visibility throughout the supply chain, because the tax has already been collected. This means the government can access information on the returns that duty-free goods are bringing in.
