Oracle executive jumps ship to Veritas

Another high-profile Oracle executive is leaving the database company for a position at storage software giant Veritas Software, Veritas confirmed yesterday.

Jeremy Burton, Oracle's senior vice-president of product marketing, will assume the role of chief marketing officer for Veritas.

Veritas is scheduled to make an official announcement of Burton's new role on 29 April, a Veritas representative said.

At Oracle, Burton was in charge of the marketing for the company and helped further Oracle's position as one of the leading database companies in the world. Mark Jarvis will remain Oracle's senior vice-president and chief marketing officer.

At Veritas, Burton will run the show when it comes to the promotion and marketing of the storage software company. There, he will join fellow former Oracle employee Gary Bloom, who departed Oracle two years ago to become Veritas' chief executive officer.

Early opinion by industry analysts of Burton's jump from Oracle to Veritas was limited, as the details of Burton's decision have still not been made available.

Along with Burton and Bloom, two other Oracle executives, former president Ray Lane, and executive vice-president Jay Nussbaum, also recently left the database company.
