Growth in IT spend is still falling

John Riley
Growth in annualised IT spend continued to fall in the first quarter this year, slumping to just 4.7% - nearly a full percentage point drop from the Q4 2001 figure of 5.6%.

The figures are based on budgetary data from 4,000 Computer Weekly readers. This data is stratified to make it representative for IT spend generally in the UK.

The fall in IT spend growth among large companies (more than 500 employees) was seen to have virtually stabilised in Q1 2002 at 3.0%. However, growth in IT spend among companies with less than 500 employees has fallen sharply, although from a higher level, to 8.2% from 10.1% from the last quarter of 2001.
