Veritas' flagship Volume Manager storage management software for Windows 2000 now offers expanded software tools such as volume replication, clustering, snapshot capabilities, and a management interface for Microsoft Exchange.
Until now, only backup and volume management tools have been available from Veritas for Windows 2000 customers.
The added storage management tools mean Windows 2000 users have access to just as many storage management tools as Veritas' Unix customers, which include users running Sun Microsystems' Solaris operating system and IBM's AIX.
"An update to the 3.0 version brings Volume Manager pretty much up to feature parity with our Volume Manager for Unix," said Matt Fairbanks, the product line manager for high availability solutions at Veritas.
Fairbanks added that the increasing number of enterprise customers deploying Windows-based computing environments was the driving motivation behind extending Veritas' Unix functionality to Windows 2000.
Industry experts such as IDC agree that an industry-wide shift is on towards more enterprise companies adopting Windows platforms than any other operating environment.
