Intel narrowed its first-quarter revenue estimate, announcing that it now expects revenue between $6.6bn (£4.6bn) and $6.9bn (£4.8bn) for the quarter ending 30 March.

Intel previously forecast revenue of $6.4bn to $7bn. The company said its microprocessor business is following traditional seasonal patterns, while its communications businesses remain weak.

Intel reported revenue of $6.7bn in its first quarter last year, a 16% drop from the previous year.
