Compaq enhances storage via Fibre-to-IP bridge

Compaq has introduced Fibre Channel to IP bridge technology for its Data Replication Manager (DRM) storage products.

The Compaq SANworks DRM FC-IP allows Fibre Channel SAN customers to transmit data off the SAN and onto common IP networks for long-distance data replication and mirroring, according to Compaq representatives.

IP-based remote mirroring provides disaster recovery insurance for companies by replicating vital data at geographically dispersed sites away from the main data centre.

A demonstration of the Compaq DRM FC-IP linking SANs across three continents was performed last September, Compaq said.

Compaq also announced that its US partners CNT, SANcastle, and SAN Valley have certified their systems for use with the new Compaq DRM FC-IP and will resell the product.

Pricing will vary depending on individual network configuration.
