The online antivirus vendor, has launched UK and German versions of its Web-based computer security services.

The launch of stripped-down versions of's main US service represents the first phase in the's plan for subscription services in local European languages and currencies, the company said. and will offer VirusScan Online and intruder guard Personal Firewall, the company said. The products are delivered and installed remotely through a Web browser, virtually eliminating the need for installation and configuration by the user. says it has over 1.2m paying "subscribers". The company estimates that 30% of those are international, from outside the US.

In Europe, hopes to take advantage of the prevalence of broadband connections and the relatively low usage of system-protection software.
