More than two-thirds of IT professionals are resigned to putting career moves on hold next year as the downturn depresses the IT jobs market.

With lower salary rises and fewer job opportunities 68% of IT professionals questioned by this week's Computer Weekly/Harvey Nash Big Question said their career strategies for next year amounted to sitting tight and weathering the storm.

Re-skilling was seen as an option by 14%, while 11% would look for opportunities outside IT. One respondent planned to "sit tight and pray", while another planned to try to market his management skills in other sectors.
