Tivoli and SAP team up to offer protection

IBM's Tivoli Systems network management division has released products that support solutions by enterprise resource software maker SAP.

The products include lifecycle management, data back-up and data recovery features.

Tivoli Management Solution for mySAP.com - SAP's Web-based service - offers performance and availability, security, storage and change management features. The product will let users integrate their mySAP.com applications through certified interfaces.

Tivoli Manager for R/3 2.2 comes with availability and performance monitoring features that enable event management, SAP R/3 deployment and management of R/3 as a distributed application.

Tivoli Data Protection for IBM Enterprise Storage Server for R/3 offers back-up tools for SAP R/3 applications, using Enterprise Storage Server's FlashCopy tool to make automated back-up copies of production data. The application also integrates with R/3's SAP DBA database administrator tool for managing Oracle databases.

"These new solutions add near 24x7 availability of e-business applications and enhanced management of database and application content," said Robert LeBlanc, Tivoli's general manager.

The partnership marks the third recent alliance between IBM and SAP. On 9 November, the two companies announced Global Language Support functionality for mySAP.com solutions on IBM's eServer iSeries solutions. The new features include support for both single and double-byte languages.

IBM and SAP also announced the limited availability of Windows 2000 application server support for IBM DB2 Universal Database for iSeries.
