Intel has released its latest version of Landesk Management Suite, promising support for mobile devices, and refined directory integration

The helpdesk and IT administrator tools support several platforms but Intel is primarily targeting the Microsoft Windows 2000 market.

David Taylor, regional manager at Intel, said, "Landesk needs lots of technology installed in one place on the server. It will support almost anything on the client side but we usually say Windows 2000 on the server because that platform has made it easy to discover what is on the network."

Landesk allows network administrators to scan hardware and software inventory or distribute software, including operating systems. Helpdesk staff can carry out support tasks remotely.

Management Suite 6.5 integrates with Microsoft Active Directory and Novell NDS eDirectory, so staff can manage networks by device or user characteristic as defined by the directory.

Support for occasionally-used machines is enhanced, with the ability to set minimum bandwidth restrictions so that large files are not distributed over narrow bandwidth dial-up connections - a regular problem for laptops.
