Almost half of IT managers are not ready for the changes in Microsoft's licensing regime that come into force next month, according to the Computer Weekly/Harvey Nash Big Question poll.

Microsoft is changing the way it licenses its software on 1 October, scrapping programmes which enable users to upgrade software at a discount. Taking out a new licence after 1 October will cost more than twice as much as a Version Upgrade, one of the current options.

Of the IT managers questioned, 44% said their organisations are not prepared for the changes.
