CBI welcomes new e-business chief

Lisa Kelly
The new head of e-business at the Confederation of British Industry will finally start work next week.

Dr Jeremy Beale will take up his post after the Bank Holiday weekend.

The position has been vacant for more than three months while the search went on for a suitable replacement. Beale's predecessor, Nigel Hickson, vacated the job to become e-commerce adviser to the government of Bermuda.

Beale, whose new job will involve lobbying the government to promote British IT interests, will be able to draw on his previous experience advising the Prime Minister on e-business during his time in the Cabinet Office.

He is also well-placed to promote British business on the world stage after his work at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development analysing the economic implications of e-business.
