Quest Software splashes out on BakBone buyout
Quest Software has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire data protection vendor BakBone Software. Headquartered in San Diego, Calif., BakBone offers data protection, deduplication, replication, disk-based and tape backup, and recovery. Quest expects to pay approximately $55 million, including the payment of certain debt obligations and net of anticipated cash on hand.

NetApp and Cisco join forces on FlexPod
NetApp has partnered with Cisco to offer FlexPod for VMware data centre architecture. The FlexPod is designed to allow customers to change their infrastructure into a virtualised and shared IT environment. The architecture is part of NetApp's new portfolio of six new storage systems and SSD products.

Talend buys Sopera
Open source and data management software vendor Talend has acquired Sopera. Sopera specialises in open source SOA and middleware platforms. Talend completed a $34 million financing round led by private investments specialist Silver Lake Sumeru. Existing Talend investors Balderton Capital and IdInvest Partners also participated.

HP extends Packaged Financing Programme
HP has extended its HP Packaged Financing Programme to help its customers finance its latest technology. HP Financial Services offers companies the opportunity to refresh their data centre and transition to the next generation HP ProLiant servers, HP Integrity servers or HP Supersome 2, in addition to HP StorageWorks and Networking products. The HP financing programme now allows customers to defer payments for up to 90 days when buying new HP server, storage, networking and software solutions.

Vblock available for VMware View and SAP solutions
VMware, Cisco and EMC have announced that the jointly created Virtual Computing Environment (VCE) will now offer the general availability of Vblock Powered Solutions for VMware View and Vblock Powered Solutions for SAP. VCE has also announced full support and certification for end-to-end Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) capabilities for its Vblock.
