Businesses struggling with server recovery yet failing to test, according to Veeam
Nearly two-thirds (63%) of companies experience problems every month when attempting to recover a server, but only 2% of server and virtual machine backups are tested for recoverability each year, according to VMware data management vendor Veeam Software. The vendor's survey of 500 IT directors suggests that such failed recoveries can cost the average enterprise more than $400,000 every year.
Promise opens new Netherlands headquarters
RAID vendor Promise Technology has opened its European headquarters in The Netherlands. The new facilities will house Promise Technology's sales, marketing and administration teams, in addition to demonstration capabilities and more room for hosting technical courses. As well as its new EMEA headquarters, the vendor has offices in Germany, Italy and the UK.
IBM to buy Blade Network Technologies
IBM has entered into an agreement to buy Blade Network Technologies, a privately held company based in Santa Clara, Calif. The vendor specialises in software and devices that route data and transactions to and from servers. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal is set to close in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Orange Business Services signs up with Cisco, VMware, EMC
Orange Business Services has formed an alliance with Cisco, VMware and EMC, called Flexible 4 Business. The coalition works towards combining networking, computing and storage, which is offered as the Vblock solution to organisations that are setting up new data centres.
HDS offers Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform
Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has unveiled the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform, which aims to help customers better organise and store their information. The platform also includes Hitachi Command Suite in a bid to simplfy data management through the integration of both tools into one programme.
