Following his departure from British Airways, Paul Coby has joined John Lewis as IT director.

Coby left the airline earlier this year as a consequence of the merger with Spanish carrier Iberia. His decision to step down as CIO was reported exclusively by Computer Weekly in January.

The IT executive will take up his new position on 21 March. Coby will join the John Lewis management board, reporting to the retailer's managing director, Andy Street.

"Paul's record at British Airways speaks for itself. He's a heavyweight in the IT industry, and therefore it is excellent news that he is joining our business to help us realise our ambition to become a leader in technology," said Street.

"We all look forward to welcoming Paul and to seeing the benefit of a dedicated IT director in John Lewis."

Many of the IT infrastructure resources and technology best practices at John Lewis are shared with Waitrose. The company, which is also part of the John Lewis Partnership, has its IT operation led by systems director Kevin Berry.
