Twitter has raised $200m (£128.2m) to further expand the micro-blogging site. Since launching in 2007 it has now raised about $360m.

As part of the round of funding with investor Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, the company has added two new members to its board of directors: Mike McCue and David Rosenblatt.

"The experience these new directors bring to Twitter, along with this renewed investment, will help us continue to grow as a company and business," said the company blog.

In the past 12 months, Twitter users sent 25 billion Tweets and added more than 100 million new registered accounts. In that time, the team has expanded from 130 people to more than 350 today.

"2010 was one of the most meaningful years since Twitter was founded. We're proud of what Twitter users have accomplished, we're proud of our work, and we're very proud of our team," the blog added.
