Norwegian browser maker Opera Software has released a final version of its free internet browser for smartphones running on Nokia's Symbian operating system.

Available for Nokia's Symbian and Series 60 phones, Opera claims the new Javascript performance of Opera Mobile 10.1 is nine times faster for web browsing than Opera Mobile 10.0.

"Powerful smartphones deserve an equally powerful browser," said Opera Software CEO Lars Boilesen. "Opera Mobile 10.1 today brings the best mobile browsing experience to the world's most popular smartphone platform."

The final version also supports geolocation web applications and features just-in-time compilation performance optimisation to the Carakan JavaScript engine, the same engine that powers Opera's desktop browser.

Other features include tabbed browsing, password manager, Opera Link and speed dial. Using Opera Turbo compression, Opera servers also shrink web pages to a small percentage of its original size to reduce data costs and speed up browsing.

Opera Mobile 10.1 is available for smartphones based on Symbian 3 and third and fifth editions of Symbian S60.

Opera released Opera Mobile 10.1 beta for Android earlier this month.
