US Department of Energy uses Second Life to recruit CIO

The US Department of Energy is recruiting a CIO through the virtual world Second Life.

It is holding an ""enterprise IT informational session" on the site today - an interactive event which will start the process of looking for a CIO at the department.

As well as the current job opening, members of the discussion will talk about IT career insights, cloud computing and the department's crowd-sourcing project.

The department's deputy CIO Kevin Cooke, IT modernisation lead Pete Tseronis and HR direction Larry Towne will all participate in the roundtable event.

The event demonstrates the growing importance of social networks and virtual worlds in IT recruitment. The US government has been active on Second Life for some time, using it for training as well as recruitment.
