George Hotz releases iPhone jailbreak

A crack of the latest iPhone operating system has been released by hacker George Hotz (pictured) with his latest jailbreaking code.

The new jailbreak allows iPhone users to use the iPhone on any GSM network. The code, known as blacksn0w, unlocks the latest iPhone 3G and 3GS.

In July George Hotz made an application available that enabled users to download software onto iPhones even if the software is not in the Apple App Store, before Apple had a chance to create a fix.

In August 2007 Hotz demonstrated the first hardware unlock of the iPhone using a technique that was developed by hackers. It allowed the iPhone to be used with any SIM card.

He said he usually gives Apple a chance to work on the fix.
