Apple: App Store won't be caught any time soon

Apple's online store for applications for iPhones, the App Store, has sold 1.5 billion applications in its first year.

The App Store has more than 65,000 applications created by more than 100,000 developers.

These applications include thousands of business applications which improve personal productivity and can be bought for as little as 59p. Last week Computer Weekly picked an application for every month of App Store's life.

Steve Jobs, CEO at Apple, said the App Store is unlikely to be copied by its competitors any time soon.

"The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality," said Steve Jobs. "With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up."
