Microsoft helps firms adopt Linux

Microsoft is expected to launch a website today that will share its Linux development work with companies interested in combining their Microsoft systems with ones running on open source software.
The new Port 25 website will be launched at the LinuxWorld conference in the US. The site will offer information gleaned from Microsoft’s 300-server Linux installation at its Redmond headquarters.
Microsoft primarily uses this installation to complete competitive analysis work between Microsoft products and Linux ones, although it realises that many of its customers are tentatively walking down the Linux path.
It wants to demonstrate that its products are not designed to keep Linux out of the enterprise. The website will be the avenue for customers to get advice about incorporating Linux into their systems.
The site will also carry Linux development blogs from Microsoft employees and video interviews.
Port 25 is the router port number that firms use to handle internet e-mail.
