Microsoft Office 2010beta is
available for public download, with the final version due for
release in the first half of 2010.
The public
beta of Microsoft Office 2010, which can be downloaded
here, marks the end of the
technical preview begun in July by MSDN and TechNet Plus
subscribers.
Microsoft announced the availability of the Office 2010 beta
along with
SharePoint Server,
Visio, Project and
Office Web Apps at the Professional Developers Conference
2009.
Office 2010 features
Office Communicator 2007 R2, which enables users to synchronise
their Windows Live and other social networking site feeds in
Outlook.
The Office 2010 public beta is available in 32-bit and 64-bit
versions and both include versions of the core Office
applications.
Businesses can start testing
Office Web Apps, but the consumer version remains in the
technology preview stage.
Microsoft has invited users of the Office 2010 public beta to
post questions and comments on the company's
Technet
Forums.
Office 2010 supports collaboration, allowing users to share
documents and move files between PCs, the web and smartphones.
According to Microsoft, the product will offer better
collaboration, enabling multiple authors to edit the same
document.
To aid collaboration over e-mail, Outlook 2010 offers
Gmail-style threaded conversations. It allows users to ignore
unwanted threads.
Users will be able to edit images directly in Word or
PowerPoint. A user interface enables users to work on, print and
manage Office 2010 documents in a common workspace.
