Most businesses lose the equivalent of an hour a week as the
result of poor network performance, putting customer relationships
at threat, research has found.
Fibre provider
Geo, which commissioned the research among large private
businesses and public sector organisations, said the results call
into question the network performance claims of telcos.
The research found 70% of businesses lose at least one hour of
work time every week due to connectivity issues. Almost 30% of
these lose as much as one day a week.
One-third of the businesses surveyed said they have experienced
faults in networks and slowdowns, with 28% risking losing
customers as a result. Two per cent of businesses have lost
customers because of poor network connectivity.
Mark Ryder, director of enterprise for Geo, said, "These
disturbing results call into question many telcos' claims that they
provide businesses with the 99.999% uptime to trade
effectively.
"Moreover, the news that faults and slowdowns do erode
relationships between businesses and their customers suggests that
UK enterprises must act to resolve this now."
