Intel has paid Advanced Micro Devices $1.25bn through a
settlement to end the ongoing legal disputes between the companies,
including antitrust litigation and patent cross-licence
disputes.
Under the terms of the agreement, AMD and Intel obtain patent
rights from a new five-year cross-licence agreement,
The
EU has investigated Intel's business practices following a
complaint by AMD over the chip giant's business practices. Earlier
this week, New York attorney general Andrew Cuomo
claimed that Intel spent up to $6bn to coerce computer makers
such as Dell, HP and IBM into using its chips instead of those from
rival AMD.
