Nokia is suing smartphone rival Apple for alleged patent
infringements in thecontinued strugglebetween the two for market
share.
Nokia claims infringement of 10 patents dealing with core
aspects of the three key wireless standards.
The patent infringement claim filed in a US Federal court
indicates an intensification of tactical manoeuvring between Nokia
and Apple, according to the
Financial Times.
Nokia claims that failing to pay royalties has given Apple a
competitive advantage because it can afford to charge less for its
iPhone, according to the complaint filed in Delaware.
The Nokia complaint comes after its smartphone market share
dropped 41% in the past three months and its mobile division
recorded a 7% drop in third quarter operating margin compared with
the same period last year.
But according to analysts, the fact that Nokia is not seeking to
block Apple's sale of its iPhone means the court case may be aimed
at opening negotiations with Apple to license its multi-touch
technology.
