UK researchers have developed software that monitors
shoppers' eye movements to see what grabs their attention.
The software, developed at the University of Bristol, combines
eye-tracking software with mapping software to allow a shopper's
attention to be measured and analysed.
Researchers can collect data about what people are looking at
when they window shop or browse.
The software also has possible applications in sports, reading,
safety and training.
Andrew Calway, a reader in computer science, who is leading the
project, said, "We are very excited about the potential of this new
technology. Computer science at Bristol has a reputation for
delivering pioneering research and teaming up with ASL has meant we
were able to help take the technology to another level, whilst at
the same time applying it to a real-world application."
The department of computer science worked with Applied Science
Laboratories.
