TheBBC has promoted long
serving IT specialist Tiffany Hall to the position of Chief
Information Officer.
Hall, who has held a number of IT roles with the broadcaster
will take on the task of strategic planning of the corporation's IT
infrastructure, Information Security systems, as well as supporting
BBC business systems and professional services teams including HR,
Marketing Communications & Audiences, Finance and Property.
The appointment is a key element of BBC CTO John Linwood's
restructure of the Broadcast and Enterprise Technology area within
the BBC's Future Media & Technology Division. In February this
year Linwood left his position of senior Vice president of
international engineering with
Yahoo! to join the BBC
where he is responsible for the maintenance and technical
infrastructure of all BBC output.
Commenting on Hall's appointment Linwood said: "I'm delighted
that Tiffany has accepted the post of CIO," he said. "She brings
extensive BBC experience to the role." Hall also brings to the role
extensive experience working with IT systems elsewhere, including
with Shellwhich she left in
1995 to join the BBC.
Since then Hall has occupied a number of positions with regional
and national responsibility.
Soon after joining as an IT project manager she was promoted to
Head of Business Systems in News where she oversaw the roll out of
an electronic news production system used by 14,000 staff across
all BBC journalism output.
From 2000 to 2005 Hall was Head of Technology for News during
which she played a key role in the development of Jupiter, a
production system credited with transforming BBC TV news.
In 2006 Hall became the Technology Controller BBC Nations &
Regions, where she was responsible for setting the technology
strategy and continued to strive for tapeless broadcast
environments with her work to launch BBC Northern Ireland's Digital
NI project.
Hall's latest role was heading the newly combined Development
& Delivery department.
