Weaknesses in the US technology infrastructure remains one of
the greatest threats to national security, the US House Committee
on Homeland Security has heard.
Arizona representative Ann Kirkpatrick warned that computer
systems which increasingly oversee critical national infrastructure
are continually under attack.
"These systems are attacked every single day. The fact is, one
of these systems is likely being attacked right now," she said.
Kirkpatrick urged the White House and Congress give this threat
the attention it requires.
She said despite president Barack Obama stating that securing US
networks was a priority shortly after coming to office, there is
still no cybersecurity coordinator in the White House.
"We must regain focus, fill these vacant high-level positions
and implement a plan to secure our networks before an attack does
irreparable harm to our Nation," she said.
