Former
HP CEO Carly Fiorina, who was ousted in favour of current
incumbent Mark Hurd in 2005, is preparing a run on the US Senate in
2010, according to reports.
Fiorina registered the name ‘Carly for California’ with the IRS
– the US tax service - earlier in the week, allowing her to start
raising funds for a campaign.
“The people of California have serious concerns about job
creation, economic growth and the role of government in solving
problems that touch each of our lives," Fiorina said in a
statement.
"I have received a great deal of encouragement to make a run for
the Senate in 2010 from people across the political spectrum
because these are all issues that need focused attention in
Washington DC.”
Fiorina will probably challenge California Democratic senator
Barbara Boxer, according to the Washington Post, which said she
could well be the GOP’s most credible Senate candidate in
California for a long time.
A move into politics has long been on the cards for Fiorina, who
served as a spokesperson for John McCain’s unsuccessful
presidential campaign but was kicked out after telling MSNBC that
her candidate was unfit to run a major company.
Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, also a Republican, is seeking to
oust governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at the next election.
