Society is expanding the IT services it provides to other
financial services companies.
The company is increasing the capacity of its Strategic
Solutions business, which provides computer systems and other
services for other financial service providers such as banks and
building societies.
The project, which will create a total of 500 jobs with the
majority in IT, will be complete in 2012.
Bradford & Bingley and the Bank of Ireland are among the
Building Society's existing customers for technology, processing
capability and administrative support services.
"The new facilities will enable the development of services for
a wider market, as well as significant further investment in
leading edge information technologies," said the firm.
Regional development agency One NorthEast is investing £1.3m
into the project, because of the jobs being created,
"Our Strategic Solutions business makes a major contribution to
the Society's overall commercial success, and our continuing growth
in this area, as well as within our core member business areas, is
a real testament to the quality of the services we provide and to
the skills of the teams that deliver them," said CEO Colin
Seccombe.
