Facebookis being overrun by silver surfers, and
simultaneously abandoned by young users, according to a new
report.
The number of users over 55 has grown by 513.7% in the last six
months, but the site now has 16.5% fewer school users and 21.7%
fewer university users.
Overall, the number of users is still growing, with nearly 72
million in the US alone. This is an increase of 70.8% in the past
six months.
The figures were generated by internet marketing agency
istrategylabs, which looked at the statistics on the social
networking site's Social Ads platform.
The company said the figures appeared to back up speculation
that younger users were becoming alienated by the site as more
older people join.
It said in a blog post, "There have been rumors that these
younger user groups are being alienated by their parents joining
the service, and this data seems to prove it."
