A group of technology and security companies led by PC maker
Dell has launched adigital forensicsservice to help law-enforcement
agencies convict more cybercriminals.
The group includes EMC, Intel, Oracle, Symantec and
AccessData.
The service is aimed at helping police reduce backlogs of up to
two years by enabling multiple analysts to work simultaneously on
the same data, according to
Reuters.
Dell said the US digital forensics market will be worth $630m in
2009, up from $252m in 2004, and the world market will be worth
$1.8bn by 2011, according to research firm IDC.
The service is likely to boost Dell's income from the public
sector, which accounted for about a quarter of its total revenues
in 2008.
Dell will demonstrate the digital forensics service to Britain's
Association of Chief Police Officers this week.
