A security researcher has been prevented from disclosing
security flaws in cashpoint machines at the
Blackhat security conference .
Networks company, Juniper, postponed the presentation by its
security
researcher Barnaby Jack, on "Jackpotting Automated Teller
Machines" to give the ATM manufacturer time to fix the problem.
The vulnerability lies in the underlying software, according to
reports.
Juniper decided to postpone the presentation to give the ATM
maker time to fix the holes,
according to a Juniper blog.
"To publicly disclose the research findings before the affected
vendor could properly mitigate the exposure would have potentially
placed their customers at risk. That is something we don't want to
see happen," the blog says.
Juniper said it was a difficult decision to postpone the talk:
"We feel that Barnaby's research is important, vital to the
advancement of the state of security and should be discussed in an
open forum."
