IT salaries are falling faster than in other sectors, according to online jobs website Experteer.

While average salaries for senior executives have risen in finance, consulting and the public sector, in IT the figures are down 7% in the last six months.

Project managers in IT have seen salaries fall 6% to an average of £62,000. Managers with responsibility for a team have seen a 4% drop to £77,000. Business unit leaders have seen a drop of 3% to £115,000.

The company said the fall is due to a drop in the number of available jobs in the IT sector. Managing director Torsten Muth said: "Ambitious IT executives facing a fall in reward for their next step on the career ladder, should consider whether their experience might be relevant to other industries in which salaries continue to rise, such as consulting and financial services."
