The economy has come back from the brink and will start to
improve, a survey of IT and telecoms suppliers claims
The survey by Chartered Institute of Marketing, which quizzed
marketers working in the IT and telecoms sector, shows that markets
have improved in the last six months.
The MORI poll revealed that 40% expect business for their firms
to improve compared to other sectors, although expectations of
growth remain very tight at less than one per cent.
The results of the CIM poll defy some expectations in the
industry that the marketing departments would be one of the first
places to feel the pain of recession.
But 68% of those that work in ICT marketing departments felt
their activities were viewed as a high priority as part of their
organisations strategy.
David Thorp, director of research and professional development
at CIM, said that the fears over the economy and jobs continued but
in marketing it did look like "we are turning a corner" in levels
of confidence.
"For now, marketers are wisely concentrating their promotional
spend in the most effective activities, and as we move into 2010,
I'm convinced this more professional approach will stand them in
good stead when the economy recovers," he said.
