Steria to help CSC with passports - and maybe ID Cards

A main supplier to the Identity and Passport Service, CSC, has appointed Paris-based services supplier Steria to help manage the front-end of passport applications.

CSC is taking over the running of Oracle-based Passport Application Support System [PASS] from Siemens, which has been running the technology since 1999.

It has appointed Steria to manage business processes such as data verification and validation. Steria says that the processes may also be used in the supply of ID Cards - a scheme the Tories have promised to scrap.

CSC is to introduce new systems to replace the PASS system. Steria will receive and open passport applications, make validation checks, ensure fees are correct and that the appropriate parts of the forms are completed, before passing them to the Identity and Passport Service.

All the work will be done in the UK.
