Ericssonhopes
to free mobile computer users from users from dongles and wires
with a new chip that allows netbook makers to build broadband
connectivity into the motherboard.
Launching the F3307 mobile broadband module today, Ericsson said
it had pre-certified the unit with nearly 80 network operators.
This gives netbook makers faster access to around one billion users
via their HSPA networks.
Ercisson said it was also working with Intel to validate the
F3307 with Intel's next-generation netbook platform, Pine
Trail-M.
Ericsson estimated that more than 300 million netbooks will be
sold between 2009 and 2014, with most having mobile broadband
capabilities. Many operators, and even retailer Tesco, already
offer mobile broadband bundled notebooks. By 2011, more than 30% of
netbooks will be sold through operator channels, Ericsson
predicted.
