More than half (55%)
of
IT security professionals expect security spending to increase
this year, a survey has shown.
Just over a third (34%) expect security spending to remain the
same as in 2008, according to an online survey of more than 1,000
respondents by
Infosecurity Europe.
Only 2% of those polled earlier this month expect reductions of
more than 5% and just 8% expect minor reductions of less than
5%.
This is in sharp contrast with the 69% who are expecting
reductions in overall IT spending, with 33% saying the cuts are
likely to be major ones.
Only 20% expect an increase in overall IT spending and 10% do
not expect any changes from 2008.
"Spending on information security will continue to grow driven
by the increase in security threats and the fact that many
organisations are still in catch up mode," said
Eric Domage, research analyst at IDC.
According to IDC, sales of information security software are
expected to grow by 7% in 2009 because of concerns about data
leakage, data integrity and mobile security.
"These are all new areas that many organisations are still
getting to grips with," said Domage, who is to take part in a
debate on the effects of the credit crunch at
Infosecurity
Europe 2009 at Earls Court in London 28 - 30 April.
