Seven-year-old Ishan Baig is already on his way to
becoming a technology expert, but at the moment he has different
ideas.
The youngster from Middlesex has just received a B grade in his
computer science GCSE, but has already decided he wants to be
Prime Minister or a premiere league footballer.
He started the IT course when he was five and has been learning
the material at Saturday classes.
His mum, Reshma, a management consultant, said she thinks he got
interested in IT after seeing her and her husband working on the
computer.
"He has always seemed interested in it from a young age, so we
thought we would enrol him in computer classes. The teaching centre
suggested we put him forward for the exam," she said.
Despite a few misgivings, Reshma let Ishan go in for the exam
because he seemed so enthusiastic.
"We were kind of hoping he would give it up, but he was so keen
and he didn't find it stressful," she said.
It was the creative side of the work that appealed to Ishan, she
said. Much of the GCSE was coursework-based, and before he started
the classes he used the computer to draw pictures or do PowerPoint
presentations on David Beckham.
"The computer gave him a tool he could use to be as creative as
he wanted," Reshma said.
"He is very motivated and is happy to sit down and do his
work."
Ishan has said he would like to do an A-level next, but his
parents are less keen.
Reshma said, "He wants to go on a course to learn how to be
Prime Minister, but I'm not sure we will pursue any more academic
qualifications any time soon."
