Britain's top secret nuclear submarine base in Scotland
can be seen using basic technology throughGoogle
Earth.
The base can be seen in such detail that two Vanguard Class
submarines, which carry up to 16 nuclear missiles, can be
identified in the pictures.
It also gives the exact longitude and latitude of the base in
Faslane, Scotland.
According to a report in the Sun, experts warn that being able
to identify where these bases are would make it easy for terrorists
to launch accurate mortar or rocket attacks.
"A strike on our nuclear capability would cause untold
devastation. Terrorists could have a field day, knowing exactly
where to aim strikes to cause the maximum devastation," one told
the newspaper.
Google Earth also shows where nuclear warheads are stored. It
also reveals the SAS training facility in Hereford.
The government demanded Google blot out British bases in Iraq
after a terrorist held in Basra was found with a Google Earth
map
Google also blocked out the Trident base but, according to the
Sun, the locations have become visible again following updates to
Google Earth.
"We do everything to protect bases but it is impossible to
control all websites providing satellite imagery," an MoD
spokeperson told the Sun.
"If people are really determined to target these sites they can
find these images and there is nothing we can do to stop them."
