Google is giving 15 days of free service access to subscribers
who were affected by its
Gmail outage this week.
The 15-day credit will be given to firms and other subscribers
who pay for productivity applications linked to the e-mail
service.
Customers who use the basic free e-mail service just got a
"sorry" from Google. This is the second such apology within a year,
following a previous outage in August.
Gmail users had no e-mail access yesterday from 9.30am GMT,
which was particularly inconvenient for European and Asian
customers.
The August outage also led to 15-day credits being issued to
subscribers.
"The Gmail outage that affected many consumers and Google Apps
users worldwide is now over. Users should find that they're able to
access their e-mail now without any further problems," says a
Google blog.
Google said, "The outage itself lasted approximately
two-and-a-half hours from 9.30am GMT. We know that for many of you
this disrupted your working day. We're really sorry about this.
"Our engineers are still investigating the root cause of the
problem. Obviously we're never happy when outages occur, but we
would like to stress that this is an unusual occurrence."
