Huawei Technologies has demonstrated the world's first unified
4G system for operators at the Mobile World Congress in
Barcelona.
The frequency-division duplex and time-division duplex (FDD/TDD)
long-term evolution (LTE) system enables more efficient use of
spectrum resources, and helps operators deliver the highest-quality
mobile broadband networks at a significantly reduced cost, said
Huawei.
Wan Biao, president of the Huawei Wireless product line, said,
"Huawei hopes to pave the way for network convergence and evolution
by developing innovative systems that enable operators to simplify
and unify their networks in preparation for future mobile service
demand".
In January 2009, Huawei was awarded the world's first LTE (4G)
commercial contract by TeliaSonera, the largest telecommunication
operator in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries.
Motorola is conducting UK 4G networking tests in Swindon.
