IBM expects that 15% to 20% of its employees will work from home
in the next five to six months.
Dravida Seetharam, vice-president of government programs at IBM,
revealed the home working target figures to
IT Examiner.
Seetharam said, "We would provide more communication and
networking facilities to the employees. It would also be a good
option of providing higher salary packages in compensation for the
energy savings achieved on their part."
The move, designed to save 10% in overall costs, will first
target sales and marketing teams. Later, all jobs that require
"constant movement" will be added to the scheme.
IBM is also seeking an additional 8% to 9% in savings through
new lighting and cooling technology, which includes the use of PC
hibernation features.
