Cardboard PC launched to cut landfill

A computer made with cardboard casing is set to be unveiled at the Greener Gadgets Conference in New York later this month.

Recompute, designed by Brenden Macaluso, is a fully sustainable desktop computer.

It uses fully recycled materials - including the cardboard outer case - that are easily disassembled at the end of the PC's life to be recycled again.

Manufacturing the Recompute is said to be a four stage low impact process: die cutting, non-toxic gluing, printing, and electronic assembly.

Only three major electronic components are used - a motherboard with a processor and memory, power supply, and a hard-drive.

It is not the first time cardboard has been proposed for the manufacturing of PC casings.

A Japanese company launched a similar idea four years ago, and some PC hobbyists have resorted to cardboard when building their own machines.
