The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has selected Logica to
support its Emergency Travel Document system.
IT services firm Logica, along with partners De La Rue and
WorldReach Software, will deliver the BRIDGE (British Identity
Document Generating Equipment) programme.
It will ensure Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) can quickly be
issued, allowing secure and more efficient cross-border travel for
UK citizens in distress.
Logica will introduce a workflow system to manage and simplify
the issuing process, ensuring the ETDs will be secure and in
accordance with FCO policy and procedure.
The system, based on PassportReach from WorldReach Software, is
designed for unique consular environments, supporting all phases of
issuing secure documents abroad. This will replace the current
manual issuing process.
Logica's other partner De La Rue will design and print the new
secure emergency travel document. The new ETD will comply with the
latest International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards,
which will ensure it is globally accepted as a travel document.
The initial implementation of BRIDGE will begin in July
2009.
Julian Braithwaite, the director of consular services at the
Foreign
and Commonwealth Office, said, "This new system will modernise
the British government's international passport operation,
providing both a more robust, efficient and secure issuing process
and a better service to British nationals overseas."
